As we prepare to celebrate women in the world…this poem is dedicated to all the women and men that celebrate women in their lives.
Woman a wonder to behold…
Woman a wonder to behold
A mother to generations
A constant source of love and mystery to the world
Yet she is trodden on,
Crushed in her quest for justice,
Forgotten at the table of opportunities,
Tossed in all directions,
Mocked by her very own, her sons, brothers, husbands, and leaders,
The nation she bore, the offspring of her womb, tear her to pieces
And let her live in torrential rains of fear and expectations
That one day the people she bore nine months in her womb will not only celebrate her on women’s day
But will celebrate her at the table of opportunities,
In making policies that will make her safe, and protected,
In making interventions that will make her voice be heard even in the furthest land,
That she will bring life without fear of death,
That she can be a nurturer and a caregiver in a world that honors her purpose,
That she will be loved as a human, a treasurer and jewel she is
That she will not be denied education, employment, leadership, resources because she is a woman
She only yearns to earn, to be listened to, to access land, jobs, and resources
She is not yearning for soft landing no, no, no, no…
She only wants a world where we are all humans and everyone matters
And then she can hustle through it all to her fullest potential
And thus be a woman, a girl, a mother, a wife, a leader, a worker, a businesswoman, and many other things that she can be.
