Poetry: The agonies of the heart…

In the silence of pain and the agony of the heart,
I was left with nothing, no feeling, and no hope,
Have I developed a heart of stone?

In the agony of the night where the pillow kissed the tears,
My pain has been treated as wastage,
Tears have dried on my face like a burning bush in my soul,
Have I developed a heart of stone?

Amid the pain and helpless burn-out,
The heart collapsed at the weight of its pain,
Far away in a foreign land, where the world knew me not,
Have I developed a heart of stone?

My heart is gone, drowned in drenched fear,
Worried about today and what tomorrow will bring,
Churning with rage and despair,
Have I developed a heart of stone?

And yet hard as I try, my soul says ‘that is not your destiny’,
You cannot allow fear, rage, and helplessness to turn your heart into stone,
Maybe light and joy will come in the morning and will melt the stone into a heart of flesh, I pray thee.
