What is your name? Now Theresa was flabbergasted! Who does this man thinks he is, Theresa thought. Her mind must have reflected on her frowning face and the man noticed the obvious disgust and anger that was building inside her. He quickly softened his stance and said, I meant where did we stop yesterday and don’t worry about me, I forget so easily. It’s both a strength and weakness as he smiled sheepishly.

Theresa softened her stance and greeted him with her teeth clenched, still thinking of how to respect this kind of human being. He seemed not to be bothered by her moods and asked again did we stop yesterday. We have only four hours to submit. He said seemingly angry.

She knew any further hesitation would not do her any good, she quickly slummed in the chair, next to a very old computer that looked like generation 1. She explained progress as she started the computer and Theresa does not remember how long the discussion took but all she remembers was type this, type that, add this, cut and paste, edit and punctuate, add tables and on and on…

This must have gone on for hours for when she looked at her watch, it was far past lunch time and as usual the boss was not bothered. They continued working until after 3 pm that the boss decided that was good enough for submission. He ordered her to print and prepare for submission. Theresa was hesitant she was not familiar with the process and this must have reflected on her facial expression that the boss quickly said, save on a flash and I will go submit. She did exactly that and he left. Just like that. He didn’t ask Theresa’s welfare or give her any explanations.

Theresa fumed and at the same time was amused, what mess have I put into myself, she thought. She started wondering what next was in store for her. The sound of a disgruntled stomach reminded her that she had not eaten lunch neither breakfast. She looked at her watch, it was past 5 pm. She touched her pocket and realized she had only transport fare back home, she knew lunch was out of the picture.

As she winded the day, closing office, she noted the man had left behind his keys on his table. She smiled and quickly felt angry, I thought I never have to come back to this damned office and now these keys. No, I still don’t have to come back, she thought to herself. I need to call this man and alert him where he can pick his keys. Ring ring ring, who is this? He asked in haste. Theresa was no longer amused or afraid of his intimidating tone, you left your keys here and me I am not coming back where do I leave them. She was feeling a sense of freedom and boss like as she told him.

His reply caught her off-guard, arrogantly he said you will come back tomorrow and every day, keep the keys and he switched off his phone. Her excitement to freedom was short lived, as she could not express herself to the man. She swallowed her pride and thought in her heart, I won’t come back to this place and to a strange son of man I call boss.

Her phone rang as she prepared to lock the office, I have sent you some money on your phone for your transport and lunch. We shall talk tomorrow if you have any questions. He switched off. Now Theresa bust out in laughter out of sheer amusement and wonder. “Maybe this human is human after all…”! She thought out loud.

She left for home wondering what more adventure, she was about to have with this strange human, oh boss…
